Upgrading LBackup is often as simple as ensuring that there are no instances of LBackup running on the system(s) you are updating (eg. no backups are currently taking place) and then running the latest LBackup installer on your backup server(s).
LBackup is distributed as an Apple package. Therefore, you can use ARD to easily upgrade LBackup on multiple machines at once.
Upgrading LBackup will sometimes require that you preform additional upgrade steps. Below is a list of instructions when upgrading to certain version of of LBackup.
SIP protection for macOS 10.14.x, macOS 10.15.x and possibly any newer system means that you should take a look at how to use LBackup when backing up data protected by SIP.
If you are migrating your system from an earlier version of Mac OS X to Mac OS 10.6 then it is recommended that you recompile rsync to avoid a known issue with rsync hanging towards the end of a recursive copy. If you are using the built in version of rsync which ships with Snow Leopard then you should not be affected by this issue.
Notes for 10.4.x users
If you are running Mac OS 10.4.x or later then it is recommended that you follow these instructions to compile and install the latest patched version of rsync.
Upgrade instructions
If you really want to use the built in version of rsync and you are upgrading to the latest version of LBackup from an version prior to 0.9.8q6 then follow the instructions below.
If you are upgrading from a version of LBackup prior to 0.9.8q6 and you are running LBackup on machines running Mac 10.4.x or later, then it recommended that you follow the additional upgrade steps listed below. These steps only need to be applied if you are intending to use standard version of rsync for your backups.
# Allow the use of the standard version of rsync when performing the backup (YES/NO) # If the remote OS is Mac OS X 10.3.9 or earlier then it is recommend that this option is set to "NO" ssh_permit_standard_rsync_version="YES"
